Rug Decor & Interior Decorating

Everybody has a different taste or thoughts of what looks good in their home and sometimes it can be difficult to explain. The great thing about rugs is that there are so many different styles, you're sure to find one that matches the decor of your home. Whether you're looking for a palace sized area rug for your living room, a runner rug for your hallway, or an accent rug for your foyer, you have many choices in sizes, colors, and styles of rugs.

Some of the more common designs of Oriental rugs and Persian rugs have a traditional floral motif. Also common are those that are curvilinear, arabesque, or have arches and vases. You'll usually find a medallion or sparse field in the center with spandrels and/or borders. The more tribal style rugs often have a more plain look and the designs are more geometrical. Some rugs are even more ornate with illustrations and are so detailed that they look like paintings.

If you're looking for a natural feel and appearance, handmade Oriental rugs and Persian rugs are the way to go. They're appropriate for almost every room of your home, especially living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. Rugs, like many things, can almost be an addiction. Once you start in a couple rooms, you'll want to move onto foyers, hallways, bathrooms. Persian rugs and Oriental rugs can provide a more sophisticated look to studies and offices as well.

While you'll want to place rugs in every room of your house and there aren't really any rules as to which style can go wear, many people find that the more plain, open designs do well in larger rooms where a piece of furniture, such as a dining table, would cover the medallion. The part of the rug you'll want to show off in this case would be the border, which would be visible around the outside of the piece of furniture.

Rug styles are as diverse as the colors found in them. The color of the rug is probably the largest factor to consider when purchasing a new rug. You'll want some colors in the rug to match accent pieces, curtains, or upholstery. If your couches are in earth tones, your rug doesn't need to be the same color, but it helps having some small touches of that color in the rug to complement the rest of the decor.

Keep in mind that when you buy a rug, you know what looks best for your home and nobody but yourself needs to be pleased with the interior decorating you've chosen. The rules are yours to make, so shop wisely and buy the quality area rug of your choice!
